University Infant Toddler Centre

The University Infant Toddler Centre (est. 1984) is a licensed child care centre and non-profit Society with Charitable status. Our early learning program and care service has eight bright playrooms designed for 89 children from birth to five years of age. An expansion to our program in 2012 enabled us to accommodate pre-school aged children, in addition to our long established program for infant and toddler ages. The Centre operates from Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Our licensed kitchen serves two nutritious snacks and a full lunch meal each day.

UITC is housed in a purposely designed childcare building, on the south end of the University of Alberta campus. It is a childcare centre with barrier free access, two indoor gross motor rooms, and kitchen, as well as the classrooms for children. Two separate, fenced and gated outdoor playgrounds, one designed for infants and toddlers, the other for pre-school aged children, are accessible from the indoor playrooms.

Our vision is to provide a quality early learning and care service that inspires and supports all children’s innate potential though collaborative practices between children, families, staff and the community. Our compliment of 32 Early Childhood Educators are experienced, competent professionals with foundational knowledge and training in early learning and care. Our program practices and curriculum are grounded within contemporary and reflective early learning philosophies that acknowledge there are multiple perspectives on children’s development and learning.

UITC is one of six University of Alberta Affiliated Child Care Centres on campus, which offer services, on a priority basis, to University of Alberta employees and students, as well as to the Greater Edmonton community. It is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of parents and community members.

A child's early learning and care experiences set a path for their life-long health, well-being, development and learning. We are committed to providing a quality service which values respect and open relationships amongst staff, children, and families.
